Scope and Contents
These are papers created by John Robert Buchanan, MD prior to his appointment as dean of Cornell University Medical College, with the exception of the file of speeches that dates from 1973-1975. Important topics contained here include material on the Comprehensive Care and Teaching Program from 1961-1963, when it was opened up to outside M.D.'s, and the final report of a project focusing on jobs for homebound patients at Montefiore. This collection also contains several folders on a World Health Organization sponsored trip to Norway, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), and Poland during 1963. Notable products from the fellowship are Buchanan's field journal and written report which contains notes on comparisons of foreign health care systems including their structure, training, and financing.
