Letter dated January 12, 1875 from John Kelly of N. Y. C. to Diedrich Willers Jr. (now N.Y.S. Secretary of State), Kelly will not come to Albany during the senatorial race, it might hurt their chance of electing their candidate (Keenan), he does not want Murphy elected, Murphy took the lead in the state legislature of those who brought disgrace to us and to my mind was the cause of our defeat in 1871 and 1872.

J. B. Wheeler of Seneca County to Diedrich Willers Jr., January 18, 1875, Wheeler wishes to be appointed to clerkship of Canal Superintendent; support from Willers would bring appointment.

T. D. Krum to Diedrich Willers, Jr. requests appointment for a friend to take the census in Arcadia in Wayne County, the friend has been a lifelong democrat. (There are several letters in the collection during this period relating to patronage.) April 15, 1875.
