Subjects include banking, canals, the lumber business, railroads, and real estate; also, Cornell University, Ovid Academy, the New York and Erie Telegraph Company, the Ithaca and Owego Railroad Company, the Ithaca Cotton Mills, the Merchants and Farmers' Bank, Ithaca, and the Sodus Canal.

Papers of Henry Shaler Williams, son of Josiah B., geologist, containing lecture and research notes used at Cornell and Yale Universities; professional correspondence and scrapbooks of photographs and clippings; articles and manuscripts for publication; photographs, maps, and plates; and miscellaneous printed matter, ca. 1864-1917. Also includes H. S. Williams' personal and household bills (1900-1911). Subjects include geology and politics. Includes Ithaca to Owego geological observations, July 21, 1885, and miscellaneous H. S. Williams items.

The collection also includes miscellaneous papers of Charlotte, Jane, Ella, and Otis Williams and Louisa, Jane, and Charles Elias Hardy, and contains photographs of the Williams family as well as genealogical information. Plans by William Henry Miller for the Williams residence.

Henry Shaler Williams (1847-1918) was a paleontologist, professor of paleontology and geology at Cornell 1879-1892, 1904-1912, and Yale University, 1892-1904; founder of Sigma Xi Society.
