Scope and content

Interviews conducted by Anne Klejment, a Ph.D. candidate at Binghamton University as part of her research for her dissertation, In the Lions' Den: The Social Catholicism of Daniel and Philip Berrigan, 1955-1965. Interviewees include David W. Connor, Catholic chaplain at Cornell and director of the Learning Web, 1976 (1 tape, 1 transcript); Jerome Berrigan, older brother of Daniel and Philip Berrigan, who was teaching English at Onondaga Community College, 1976 (1 tape, 1 transcript); Sarah Elbert, a Professor of History and Women's Studies at Binghamton University from 1973 to 1995 and peace activist, 1976 (1 tape, 1 transcript); Daniel H. and Linda S. Finlay, activists and close friends of Daniel Berrigan, who were teaching at Ithaca College, 1976 (1 tape, 1 transcript); W. Jack Lewis, Director of Cornell United Religious Work (CURW), 1977 (1 tape, 1 transcript); George McVey, a Rochester dentist and Catholic peace activist, and Bernard Meyer, formerly a priest in the Cleveland area who participated in the D.C. 9 action against Dow Chemical Company, 1976 (1 tape, 1 transcript); and John Lee Smith, Associate Director for Studies in Religion, CURW, who helped hire Daniel Berrigan, 1977 (1 tape, 1 transcript).
