Biographical / Historical

The Morse Manufacturing Company was established in 1892 and incorporated in 1898 in Trumansburg, NY as the Morse Chain Company. The company manufactured bicycle chains and went on to develop chain and power transmission equipment from its Ithaca, NY factory, built in 1906. Its subsidiaries, the Thomas Morse Aircraft Corporation (founded in 1917), the Peters-Morse Manufacturing Company (founded in 1919), and the Barr-Morse Corporation (founded in 1921, manufactured aircrafts, adding machines, and typewriters, respectively. The Morse Chain Company was taken over by the Borg-Warner Corporation in 1929.
