Scope and content
Portraits of significant European and American literary and historical figures, and pictures of various theatres in England, France, Germany, and the United States. Subjects include Otto von Bismarck, William Blake, Anne Boleyn, Daniel Boone, Joseph Brant, Robert Browning, Geoffrey Chaucer, Oliver Cromwell, astronomer Johannes Mayr (or Major; image dated 1610), President James Garfield, General James Oglethorpe (shown at the posthumous sale of Dr. Johnson's books in 1785), and many others.
Also, two images of Charles Kingsley: a photograph, and a photo of a portrait of him in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
