Papers of Michael Uhl include correspondence, 1981-2009; his Ph.D. dissertation, "A Regular Guy: The Antiwar Memoir of a Vietnam Vet," 2002, with early drafts and files relating to his studies; a spiral-bound notebook of selected poems, articles, and other works, as well as loose clippings of recent reviews and a chronology of his publications, 1972-1998; drafts of an unpublished novel, "Alto's Journey"; draft chapters of an unpublished non-fiction work on the German-American experience; various papers, travel articles, and poems; files for articles on Agent Orange and PTSD; correspondence from Carolyn Chute; financial records, 1997-2004; assorted files on Veterans For Peace, including 2010 25th anniversary convention in Portland, Maine, where the organization was founded in 1985; and diary and letters written from Vietnam, 1969.
Signed Calder poster for Amnesty (Safe Return Committee) with article by M. Uhl, "Dis-ing Golub," providing an account of the provenance of the Calder poster, photocopy of Calder letter to M. Uhl, and photocopy of program for event. Also, political posters from Portugal, Australia, Greece, some announcing Uhl speaking appearances.

Biographical / Historical
Writer, teacher, Vietnam veteran, and anti-war activist. 1st Lieutenant, Military Intelligence, 1967-1969, 11th Infantry Brigade, Vietnam. With Tod Ensign, Michael Uhl co-founded and co-directed Citizen Soldier, a veterans and GI rights advocacy organization and research foundation in New York City.
