Scope and content

Office files, including correspondence; duplicate accession files; guest register signed at Alumni Reunion Weekend exhibit prepared by staff of the University Archives, Barton Hall, 1977 and 1978; SPINDEX Development Project Records and SPINDEX and CornellC documentation, 1968-1975; records relating to the 1976 University records survey; and exhibit material from department exhibits, 1952-1970. Also, letters and resumes relating to the appointment of the first curator of the Collection of Regional History, 1942. Includes the 1969 "Manuscripts for Research," a cooperative listing of collections for Cornell and Syracuse University; RLIN cataloging information; and lists of the department's manuscript holdings relating to literary figures, circa 1957-1970, for the reference book American Literary Manuscripts (2nd edition, 1977).

Biographical / Historical

The Collection of Regional History was established in 1942. It subsequently grew into the Department of Manuscripts and University Archives, and in 1992 it merged with the Department of Rare Books, History of Science Collections, and Fiske Icelandic Collection to form the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections.
