Biographical / Historical

In 1977, eleven states collaborated under the direction of Cornell Professor Kathryn Walker to do time-use surveys. Each state was responsible for collecting the time-use data from residents of their respective state. While there were a set of questions common to all eleven states, each state could add questions on associated issues. The project was funded by an Interstate USDA grant and was sponsored by the Agricultural Experiment Stations of California, Connecticut, Louisiana, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The Cornell Institute for Social and Economic Research (CISER) has the digitized data collected in the eleven states from the common questions that were used.

This collection contains uncoded data on diet, time-use, gender roles, etc. of Utah families that were surveyed by the Utah component of the 1977 eleven state survey. 210, two parent, two child families, half living in urban areas and half living in rural areas of Utah were surveyed and Professor Jane McCullough of Utah State University was the princiapl investigator.
