The collection consists of original artwork that was part of a traveling exhibition entitled "Draw me a Story: A Century of Children's Book Illustration", produced by the Cartoon Art Museum of San Francisco. The exhibition documents the work of forty-one artists who created works especially for children. Artists represented include Ralph Caldecott, Kate Greenaway, W.W. Denslow, William Steig, Chris Van Allsburg, Edward Ardizzone, Lois Lenski, Tomie DePaola, Maurice Sendak, Rosemary Wells, and Patrick McDonnell.

Biographical / Historical

Malcolm Whyte is an author, editor, publisher, and founder of the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, CA. In 1959 he founded Troubador Press, initially a manufacturer of greeting cards, and from 1970 a publisher of educational books for children, including game books, activity books, and elaborate color-and-story books. In 1982 Whyte sold Troubador, which is now a subsidiary of Penguin-Putnam.
