Content Description

The Audrey Kahin papers (1921-2018, bulk 1950-2016) contains correspondence, research files, and publications documenting Kahin’s scholarship on the history of Southeast Asia, predominantly Indonesia and Malaysia, and materials relating to the Cornell Southeast Asia Program (SEAP), Southeast Asia publications, and the Cornell Modern Indonesia Project (CMIP). The collection also includes research, translations, and publications originally created by George McTurnan Kahin and retained by Audrey Kahin as part of her research.

Biographical / Historical

Audrey R. Kahin is a historian of Southeast Asia. She was born May 18, 1934 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. She received her B.A. from the University of Nottingham in 1955, her M.A. from Cornell University in 1976 and her Ph.D. in Southeast Asian History in 1979. She was managing editor of Southeast Asia publications and editor of the journal Indonesia at Cornell University from 1978-1995.

Kahin is the author and editor of a number of publications, including Regional Dynamics of the Indonesian Revolution (1985), Subversion as Foreign Policy (with George Kahin) (1995), Rebellion to Integration (1999), Historical Dictionary of Indonesia 2nd and 3rd editions (with Robert Cribbs) (2004, 2015), and Islam, Nationalism and Democracy: A Political Biography of Mohammad Natsir (2012).
