Content Description
Correspondence and documents that shed light on Mary Beth Ross's running of the Women’s Writers Center in Cazenovia, NY, 1975-1982, and the communication between her and prominent feminist writers including Kate Millett, with whom she had a relationship for some years, Audre Lorde, June Jordan, Rita Mae Brown, Maxine Kumin, Marge Peircy, Olga Broumas, and Susan Griffin. Significant audiovisual material includes a documentary about the Center and a recording of a conversation between Brown and Millett at a Center event. Also, family photo albums, material from film and writing projects, and subject files on other interests of Ross, including John J. Kennedy, Jr., Gaelic literature, and the antiwar ideology of brothers Daniel and Philip Berrigan.

Mary Beth Ross was born in 1942. She was an educator, writer, and documentary filmmaker. She was the founder of The Women’s Writer’s Center (1975-1982) in Cazenovia, NY and she was a lifelong advocate for women's and girls' inclusion in education and employment. Mary Beth Ross passed away in 2022.
