Biographical / Historical
Xerox Revolutionaries: Paper Zines for Queer Punks was created in 1999 by Hank Thigpen. After being active in the queercore cultural scene in Atlanta in the late 1990s, Thigpen moved back to Tallahassee, Florida, and missed a thriving queer punk community. In response, Thigpen created Xerox Revolutionaries (XR) Distro in 1999 to make and distribute zines about queer punk music to “make a few trans folks and dirty queers a little less lonely.” The distro came about during what could be called the third wave of “queercore,” the LGBT-identified branch of underground punk and hardcore music that had been defined by zines such as JD’s, Homorcore, and Outpunk in years prior. Xerox Revolutionaries distributed over a hundred different issues of zines; publishers supplied Thigpen with “flats” ready to copy, and he filled orders on demand. In addition, Thigpen would bring bags of zines to venues in and around Tallahassee where any queer punk band played. Xerox Revolutionaries ceased distribution around 2005.
