Scope and Contents
Includes a letter from Seraphine Dewey at the American Mission in Mardin, Turkey, about the state of the orphanage, two children that Howland sponsored, and photographs of the children and the mission yard (March 14). The letter also discusses men between 20-25 trying to escape conscription if they marry orphans, and how many young girls were recently married across the city. Correspondents include William E. Benson, Ellen Mussey, Jane E Thompson, Rebecca Taliaferro, A. Gertrude Flanders, Cornelia Bowen, Leslie Pinckney Hill, Caroline Putnam, Anna Stanton, and Jennie Dean, among others.
