Scope and Contents
Scrapbook of Marilynn “Vickie” Woollatt Peckham, class of 1956, documenting her time at Cornell University. Materials date from 1954-1956. Includes newspaper clippings, programs, brochures, correspondence, and other ephemera. Personal materials of Peckham document her on- and off-campus activities, academics, and sorority involvement. Personal materials include correspondence; wedding invitations; bridal shower invitations; invitations to fraternity and sorority events, including Mu of Sigma Phi Orchid Ball invitation with pressed orchid; invitation to a party hosted by the Moslem Society of Cornell University; a parody skit written by Peckham, based on Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore; invitations to events at the Cornell Club of Maryland and Cornell Club of Washington, D.C.; paystub and training manual for Hecht Brothers department store in Baltimore, where Peckham worked during the summer; brochure and collection highlights list from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.; itinerary and postcard for her spring break trip to Florida (1956); Baccalaureate Service program (June 10, 1956; 88th Commencement program (June 11, 1956); and graduation tassel. Sorority materials documenting Peckham’s involvement with Alpha Omicron Pi include Notes from the Knoll newsletters; Pledge Formal programs (1955, 1956); Initiation Weekend programs (1955, 1956); and additional ephemera. Also present are a ranked list of fraternities and sororities by average GPA for academic year 1953-1954; an issue of Fraternity Bulletin; and an issue of Ivy Magazine.
Athletics materials present include programs for football games between Cornell and Syracuse (November 6, 1954); Dartmouth (November 13, 1954); and the Cornell Homecoming game against Princeton (October 22, 1954). Also included are programs for Cornell-Yale swim meet (1955); Cornell-Navy swim meet (1955) Cornell-Army indoor track meet; and Cornell-Brown basketball game (December 16, 1955).
Programs for on-campus events include Cornell University Theatre, “Charley’s Aunt” (1954); Komos Aeidein, “Big Red Revue” “Tickled Pink” (1954); University of Toronto Glee Club and Cornell A Capella joint concert; Forty-Fourth Annual Farm and Home Week of the New York State Colleges of Agriculture and Home Economics and the Veterinary College at Cornell University (March 20-25, 1955); Battle of the Bands, Stan Rubin and His Tigertown Five (Princeton), vs Eli’s Chosen Six (Yale) (April 15, 1955); Engineers’ Day (1955, 1956); Octagon, “Star Bright” (1955) and “Finian’s Rainbow” (1956); Children’s Art Show (Department of Child Development and Family Relationships, 1955); Fall Weekend “Fall into Fantasy” – Billy Butterfield and Leroy Holmes playing at Fantasia (1955); Campus Council on Religion, “Modern Man in Search…” (1955); Women’s Athletic Association, “Frolic in the Foam” (1955) and “A Night on the Town” (1956); Sage Chapel religious service; Tenth Festival of Contemporary Arts (April 11-25, 1956); Student-Faculty Variety Show (1956); and Women’s Self Government Association Spring Meeting (1956). Programs for off-campus events include the University of Western Ontario dance show (1954); Ice Capades (1955); and program from Radio City Music Hall (1955).
News clippings include articles about Freshman registration 1955 and 1956; an article on increased student enrollment by Cornell President Deane W. Malott; the deaths of Cornell students Richard E. Kremer (1955), Eugene N. Patch (1955), and Paul Josef Bogatay (1956); fraternity and sorority activities, including rushing, pledging, and parties; advertisements for on-campus lectures and performances; athletics, including football, rowing, swimming, and fencing; advertisement for Cornell Class rings; lecture by television producer Robert Saudek; Count Basie concert (October 8, 1955); other notable visitors to campus including Dr. Jonas Salk and Senator Harry Byrd; Cornell Dance Club; Spring Weekend (1955) events and student pranks; Hotel Ezra Cornell (1955); Cornell Daily Sun 75th anniversary issue; “Cornell Daily News” parody issue; Willard Straight Hall 30th anniversary celebration (1955); death of Cornell alumnus Ensign Philip Baber(1955); death of Donald Kerr, advisor to international students; death of Cornell engineering professor Malcolm McIlroy (1956); and Cornell’s 88th Commencement.
