Includes a letter describing the death of Lieutenant Ed Russell after he captured several Indigenous peoples; a letter J.R. Bergan (September 24) describing two "Indian Wars", one of which ended with a small pox outbreak and the second had yet to start in Rogue River Valley. A few letters mention "Captain Grant" at Vancouver Barracks, referring to Ulysses S. Grant.
